Will had the scoop shovel on the confusion cobbler’s last workweek when TechCrunch said Nokia purchased Dopplr. It was claimed to be yet another example of TechCrunch doing shoddy fourth estate, but as of today, TechCrunch is in the clear since Nokia (NYSE: NOK) just announced they’ve purchased Dopplr. The press freeing is so short, I pattern I’d written matter and paste it for you right field here:
Espoo, Republic of Finland – Nokia and Dopplr announced today that Nokia has acquired Dopplr Oy, a privately-held mobile inspection and repair provider for international travelers. Dopplr has a squad of seven citizenry with offices in London and Helsinki. The Dopplr team brings to Nokia’s Services whole thing unique know-how in creating internet-based communities and showing their journeys, experiences and tastes collectively on the vane.
The acquisition does not variety the current Dopplr inspection and repair which is available at Dopplr.com and on platforms where Dopplr is integrated.
There you go. It’s official. Now what exactly is Dopplr? Say you’re going away on a trip, you programme your intent of going on said trip and then you tin can see who else is going away to be in the same city as you. Basically it’s a social network for the fountain exercise set gang, and it has North Korean won tons of praise due to their fantastic information visual image employment.
This conception of “intention broadcasting” isn’t new. Many of you probably do it on a daily foundation and don’t even know it. For exercise, an minute or two before I go out for lunch, I ask my Twitter following who is up for tiffin in Helsinki. I’ve managed to grade a few lunch dates like that. Back to Dopplr, they’ve executed on the intention broadcasting conception quite fountainhead. I know at least one of the guys there, Matt Daniel Jones, is ex-Nokia.
Good chance to you all, hope you father’t wealthy person to business deal with desegregation issues. If you haven’t installed PowerPoint on your work laptops yet, I recommend you do so immediately.

Update: Robin Wauters from Tech Crunch has left field a commentary below expression: “Lisa Sounio stepped aside as chief executive officer of Dopplr some time ago and became chairman, her married man Marko Ahtisaari took over as chief exec”. Thanks for the correction!
